The Yamaha DX100

In this video series, I’m highlighting some cool synths from the 60’s-90’s, as detailed by the excellent YouTube channel 8-bit keys. Today, we have the Yamaha DX100:

The sound of the Yamaha DX100 (plus restoration details)

One of the most unique things about this instrument is the inclusion of a breath controller port on the back: not something you see every day and it makes this instrument much more expressive.

The breath controller feature, combined with the ability to make your own unique patches from scratch, really gives this instrument a lot of fresh creative possibilities.

I started this video at the end, so you can hear some of the fun sounds this instrument can make, but be sure to watch from the beginning too. It’s always really interesting seeing the significant amount of specialized work and troubleshooting that goes into keeping these oldies but goodies going.
