Our favorite simple music videos (David Lynch tribute)

In tribute to the very sad recent passing of filmmaker David Lynch, I’m re-releasing part of the How to Make a Music Video series featuring some of his best DIY-styled work.

This series features filmmaker Nita Blum, and this particular clip is one of my very favorites from our interview together. In this video, we chat about each of our personal favorite music videos done in a simple DIY style that requires minimal setup, gear, editing, and personnel.

David Lynch’s contribution to this list is his excellent simple music video for the Lykke Li song “I’m Waiting Here”.

Other notable simple videos referenced in our conversation include Sharon Van Etten’s Your Love is Killing Me video, and Beach House’s video for Dark Spring.

And, some new ideas from Nita that didn’t make it into the original interview: Angel Olsen’s video for Windows is another good reference for what can be done on a minimal budget.
